[Were they awkward questions? It seemed more to Shulk like Fiddleford was wringing his hands over something that wasn't actually a problem. But who hasn't had those moments?

It wasn't something I went in meaning to do; it just sort of snuck up on me.

[It does feel a little sudden, but on the other hand, that's only because it's such a new experience to think of himself in this sort of relationship. He's known Marco the longest he's known anyone in Ryslig -- since his very first day -- and that's more than enough time to know that whatever form it takes, he definitely does care a lot about him.]

look, i didnt want to say this, but Marco's not safe. he's become too involved with the fourth god. he sounds a lot like the fog follower who was around prior, just. blindly and totally devoted you arent like that. your god is a means to an end, not something to be protected from simple criticism

[He looks at that for a very long time, trying to formulate a reply that is Reasonable and Polite instead of the instinctual raised hackles. One of Fiddleford's strengths -- flaws? -- is his dogged loyalty to the people he considers His, and right now his friendship with Shulk is warring with his feelings for Marco in a way that's very unpleasant to have to navigate.]

How often do you talk to him? That's an awful serious accusation to make about a man if you don't know him all that well.

[He wants to say more, to say that the Fourth isn't a means to an end so much as a mutually-beneficial relationship, but he has a feeling Shulk won't much like hearing that from him now.]

[It's two against one, isn't it? Shulk stands alone, where Fiddleford has loyalty to both Marco and the fourth. He doesn't consider the fourth an obstacle, however. Fiddleford only jumping to Marco's defense proves it, right?

The long pause has him worried, however, and he knows this is a delicate subject...and funnily enough, one he's been the subject of before. Siding with a god would have made him dangerous, a traitor, and it's ironic that he's here now, trying to have Marco alienated in a way he almost was. But Crow was right, he would've been a lost cause, like Marco. Not like Fiddleford, or Yuzu. There'd have been no way they could trust him anymore.]

i admit, it's been awhile. and we've never been close...but he's been here a long time. i remember his earlier days, he was, uh, pretty peaceful, friendly not one to lose his temper. i would have thought it impossible, actually you have to admit its a stark contrast then, when suddenly he's aggressively defending a god, and amputating limbs in that gods name. its crazy! unless youre telling me he's always been that way. in which case you're right, i didnt know him at all. but i know what gods are capable of, and i know its not his fault, but its for your safety if nothing else, Fiddleford

I've only ever known him like he is now, and he seems plenty peaceful and friendly to me. He's the best friend I -have- here.

I won't leave him. He needs me. He's just scared Shulk. We're all scared.
