It'll be seven years come February. I'm not the one who's been here longest but there's only a few who are around from before my time. Whatever you want to know about I'm more than likely to at least be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes, I do. I'm one of those folks that doesn't have anything to go back to and who's got a second chance here. I'm a better man now than I was when I had legs, not to put too fine a point on it. I've built a nice life here.

[While there isn't exactly anything in the gift to give away the identity of the sender, the terse note and the choice of gift hints at someone who may have met Fiddleford, and who perhaps has even spent enough time in his house to see the occasional oddities decorating it. And that is fine with Diavolo. He has spent enough of his life hidden away from the world. What is the point of a "Secret Santa", a tradition where he goes entirely without credit for his actions?

He remembers, vaguely, seeing something about this on the network -- something he hadn't commented on then because in his experience it never goes well when he comes in to provide some factual grounding to the lofty goals. Now he isn't sure how much or how little he should say. Does he just have the fully story out in the interest of transparency, or does he keep things close to his chest because he has no idea who this person is or what their intentions really are?

That is correct, yes.

Specifically I removed from Elias the piece of the Fog's power that his father stole, in the interest of trying to return him to his real body. I'd hoped maybe he could recover from what was done to him.

I removed his power successfully but that power was too much to contain. It broke free and caused general mayhem in Bavan while it searched for a host to rejoin. In the meantime the Arcade and Elias were completely unreachable. Inevitably that power found its way back to him and ultimately nothing of substance was gained except for the understanding that he does not want to be returned to his human 'vessel', as he put it.

I don't know precisely why you're planning to do this, but if you think it will be a kindness, know that he's not going to thank you.

I haven't really put anything into motion yet. Right now, I want to hear people and know what has and hasn't been done.

I know people have been here longer than I have, seen more, and understand the gods a lot better than I do.

I know he won't thank me, nor will the fog if I'm honest. It's more about helping the people who live here. It's something I'm trying to tread lightly with.

I appreciate the information. It's a lot more than I had before.

If you're trying to tread lightly then you need to understand that what you're doing is not going to help everyone who lives here. It will help some people. The rest of us will be left out to dry.

I'm starting to get that picture now, yeah. I don't want to get anyone hurt, or leave anyone out to dry.

I want to stay here, but I know people want to leave. I'm trying to find some safe middle ground, but that's harder than anything else.

You'll have to forgive me, I'm used to 'I want to kill the gods' going hand in hand with 'I don't want to be here and no one else should either'.

I do. Even with what we're forced to do to live, I don't hate this place or the people here. I want everyone to be safe and happy. There are good people here just trying to live their lives. I just want to make things better if I can.

Yeah, I understand that. On my post people were... really quick to jump towards that mindset. Even during the meeting I held that was the main reaction.
